Applications are now sought from experienced Senior Systems Safety Engineers for a role within our Maritime business unit at Garden Island, New South Wales. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for both the provision of the end to end engineering process and the technical authorisations of engineering work in the area of system safety and certification.
The position is accountable for;
• Managing the engineering activities within a structured systems engineering framework to support the delivery of engineering solutions, in accordance with BAE Systems engineering management plan and procedures
• Liaising and reporting to the chief engineer and engineering functional manager as required, providing technical advice to engineering staff as required, liaising with production personnel to resolve issues
• Managing the work within the requirements of the BAE Systems quality manuals and procedures
• Ensuring that professional engineering technical and operational support is accurate, safe, on-time and on-budget to support project, task and bid activities
• Performing the principal safety engineer role in a project team for assigned projects
• Supporting BAE Systems in the delivery of system safety engineering solutions and advice for projects undertaken within a structured safety engineering methodology
As the ideal applicant, you will have:
• Substantial experience within an engineering discipline, preferably in a Defence environment with extensive experience working directly in a system safety engineering position
• A degree level qualification in safety, electronic, electrical, mechanical or computer systems engineering or a suitable combined engineering discipline
• A ability to collaborate effectively with other engineers, technical officers and drafts people.
• An ability to manage and prioritise own activities to meet project schedules, self-motivated and able to work effectively without supervision
• Computer literacy in contemporary engineering application software,
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
As Defence security clearance is required for this role, applicants must be Australian citizens and eligible to obtain and maintain appropriate clearance.
International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) are applicable and as such, your nationality may be a factor in determining your suitability for this role.
