Role Summary/Purpose: GE is an equal opportunity employer, offering a great work environment, challenging career opportunities, professional training and competitive compensation.An electrical engineer/designer specializing in secondary systems providing innovative solutions to GE’s customers in the industrial and electrical utility market segments. Working within the commercial team as an Secondary system electrical engineer on Substation and balance of plant proposals, secondary system greenfield and retrofit projects and smart grid pilots for all ranges from 11kv–500kv, with a range of projects from Australian Mining, Wind Farm Developers and Electrical Utilities.
Essential Responsibilities: Design
Detailed and conceptual design of secondary systems in industrial and utility Substations and BoP projects for wind and mining applications, including but not limited to the development of:
Secondary system Single Line Diagrams
Switchroom general arrangements
Secondary schematic diagrams
Protection Diagrams and Protection Logic
Protection & control panels layouts
Protection relay configuration
SCADA Communications methodology and architecture
RTU and substation automation design and logic
Equipment Selection
Assistance with selection of appropriate secondary equipment and generation of associated RFQs including but not limited to:
Protection Relays, RTUs / IEDs
Communications equipment
CT & VT selection, sizing and specifications
Evaluation of 3rd party secondary system equipment where GE equivalents are not available
Monitoring and diagnostic equipment
SCADA platforms
Documentation
Responsible for ensuring accuracy and completeness of:
Technical proposal documentation to end-customers
Secondary system conceptual drawings and architectures
Scope of works and RFQ documentation for internal GE use and third party suppliers
Commercial
Support GE’s commercial organization by:
Working with commercial teams to identify business growth opportunities through market analysis and planning
Proactively creating & influencing customer demand for GE products and services through customer & consultant liaison
Influencing subcontractor and supplier selection, delivery methodology and project schedule and plan
Education & Consultancy
Provide industry thought leadership through:
Presenting technical papers to raise the profile of GE
Liaising with Product experts to understand & influence product roadmaps in relation to customers’ technical requirements
Attend industry technical working groups and associations
Training & knowledge transfer
Mentoring & coaching of colleagues
Qualifications/Requirements:
Tertiary educated with Electrical Engineering degree or equivalent
Demonstrated knowledge in all aspects of secondary system design, including protection, control and automation and SCADA
Substantial practical experience in Substation Secondary Systems Design or equivalent
Substantial practical experience across greenfield and retrofit secondary system projects and working with electrical and mechanical contractors
Excellent written & oral English language skills
Ability to travel within A&NZ
A self-starter with the ability to work under time and resource pressure in a customer facing environment

Protection system studies
IEC 61850 experience and knowledge
Experience with load shedding schemes and other substation automation algorithm design and programming

Excellent industry and tertiary education connections
Membership of technical working groups and committees such CIGRE and IEC
An ability to confidently discuss Smart Grid concepts
Published author of technical white papers
Strong commercial and negotiating skills
Multilingual (Asian language preferred)
