As Software Developer you will focus primarily on mobile application development but will also have some involvement with web application development and system support related tasks. Overall responsibilities include development, implementation and support of software applications and systems under the preview of the portal and device development team. This role will give you an opportunity to showcase your multitude of technical skills and hands-on experience, giving you the chance to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team.
Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Delivery of software applications of high quality, within agreed scope
Constant delivery of innovative proof of concept applications to promote fresh ideas to other Optus business units for early adaptions and funding requests
Following and improving software development processes, including agile processes
Adherence to Optus policies and guidelines while delivering the operational results
Actively participating in all team meetings and discussions
Conducting peer code reviews
Maintaining code quality (high stability, readability, low defect)
Managing multiple complex technologies, platforms, systems and development methodologies.
Delivering software solutions to complex requirements
Working individually and in virtual teams
Exercising effective technical solutions and innovation in high pressure situations
Contributing to outcomes in a dynamic, customer focussed team
To be effective in this role you will possess the following skills, experience and knowledge:
Bachelor/Master in Information Technology / Computer Science
Substantial experience in mobile and web application development
Development experiences in more than one of the iOS, Android, Windows Phone
Strong knowledge of HTML 5, CSS3, JQuery
Mobile Development (if role is primarily for mobile development) - iOS, Android, Windows Phone, Cross Platform tools (e.g PhoneGap)
Experience with the latest Spring frameworks, such as MVC, ROO
Experience with consuming and implementing REST or SOAP web services
Experience with template frameworks, such as Freemarker, Velocity, etc.
Experience of integrating with third party systems, e.g. Google Maps, Facebook APIs, Paypal
Experience in Linux OS administration, Apache web server, Tomcat or JBoss application server
Experience with Subversion, git, mercurial or any other major source control mechanism
Understanding of Object Oriented Programming and Design Patterns
Understanding of Agile software development methodologies
Good understanding of layered architecture
Ability to work as an individual or as a part of a team
Ability to implement automated unit tests
Flexible with respect to change
Ability to learn new technology and gain domain knowledge on the job
Good abstract thinking and problem solving skills
Experience in developing enterprise applications using Java and/or Perl programming languages
